Hi there. Consult your orthopaedician for an MRI neck, I assume you have a prolapsed or injured cervical inter vertebral disc which you received an epidural steroid for. I presume there is a shoulder pathology also likely to be frozen shoulder where the treatment includes intra articular steroid injection to allay symptoms. You could be prescribed non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, hot fomentation, physiotherapy etc. since the shoulder has tingling, it could be part of compressive myelopathy at the cervical spine level. So another fluoroscopic guided epidural shot of steroids with blood sugar controlled and monitored could give some relief. Other option is surgical, discectomy or laminectomy depending on the surgeon’s decision. Take care.
Thanks for the advice. My rheumatologist has not been much help and I really need some relief. I think I will try to get in to see an orthopedist.
Well, you asked in your title about what will relieve your nerve pain, and so I know of two kinds of medication that do that. I take Lyrica (pregabalin) and I take an opiate (pain killers), so the doc who gave you the injections and prednisone might give you one of those. I'm not sure if the gaba drugs raise blood pressure or not, but pain killers shouldn't.
But you might should see a sports injury specialist or orthopedist, it sounds like you just might have torn up your shoulder, like perhaps a rotator cuff injury or dislocation or torn tendon or ligament, and they will be able to prescribe physical therapy, maybe a sling to keep strain off your shoulder, or whatever treatment fits what injury you actually have.
In the meantime, a little aspirin or plain alka seltzer reduces inflammation and helps pain, and you can put either warm or cold compresses on your shoulder, whichever gives you temporary relief, and you can make your own sling from an old shirt or maybe large pillowcase becuz, until you see a doc, might be better to give that arm a rest until a professional puts you in physical therapy or whatever he decides to do.
There is a chance that you have a muscle that is drawn up real tight into knots, so you can ask a friend or relative to rub the muscles in your shoulder. Also a chance you actually hurt your spine somehow... but the swelling in your shoulder joint tells me the injury is there. I hope you get to the right doc specialist soon, and in meantime your regular doc might prescribe you one of the drugs I mentioned on a temporary basis.
