white spots on the brain

My wife has just had a MRI and the Doctor said that as we age we get white spots on the brain however she has to many or they are to big for her age, she is 52, she has just had a lumber puncture and it has been sent away and we have to wait for the reults, unforunatly the puncture did not heal and she is in now having that looked at, what would be the reason for her having to many or to ig for her age and what can this lead to, over the past few years she has had increasing head , neck and back pain, she never used to get the head pains. Andy.

I'm not really sure of what is going on with me, but reading here I find myself in your situations. but biggest issue has been my Walking, I just get very week and can't walk far. This has been going on for about 2-3  years, I have had a lot of Stress Issues, my mother was very sick and than she passed away, 2 months later I had a breast issue that required surgery, ( everything came out fine ), than 3 months after that, I needed to have a hysterrectomy, so I had just put my not walking well on the back burner, until recently, when I just feel I can't take it anymore. Last week went to Doctor, took some blood, found me of be very very low on B12, sent me for MRI of Brain, which is showing alot of white spots, so now I am set up to go to Neurogolist. I have to say I am currently 52 and very much nervous about all this,

I am not sure at this stage if they have suggested MS as I work overseas and this has happend whilst I am away, she has however had the LP the Nurse told her the fluid was clear? a good sign so I believe, it is frustrating as the waiting is driving me up the wall and I could not understand why they would say the spots are to many or to large for her age and not give any reason or poss information on what it could be, I know Doctors do not wish to worry people but no information is being told the worst and we all end up doing things like this on this forum, any way if I get any further information I will let you know, hope all is well with you. My symptoms are so very near to your wifes that I had to write.  My symptoms are exactly the same without the headaches.  I have bad neck and back pain and left thigh pain and contractions of this muscle.  I am now falling over a lot and went for an MRI with similar results, I  am 46 years old.  What I also want to know is how many white spots can one have on the brain before Multiple sclerosis can be diagnosed.  I know some are normal after the age of 40.  I have also been asked by my neurologist to go for a lumbar puncture but am reluctant before I have examined every avenue.  I dont have any of the other signs of MS.  Have they suggested MS to your wife, has she been on a tx of vit B12 Injections.  Any news from the outcome of the LP would be appreciated, I hopee she gets better soon, as I hope I do too.
Thanking you
Christine
