worried about dialentin level

hi
my husband had 1st grandmal in 2000. they immediately put him on depakote and a different one. they didnt work for him then they tried dialentin. neorolgist took him off meds all together after 6 mths he had another one this one was where he stared off into space  then went into grand mmal. i changed to a D.O his seizures were fine and uncontrol for 6 years. then in nov 06 he had a grand mal. his level dropped to 3 he never missed a dose.
we seen another neurologist they changed him from the timed release to non time release. months of monitoring it it was toxic to low to stable now again its above 25.  his diet is good. all organs work fine liver and ect. i dont understand why they cant get level to stay normal. or should he  just forget dialentin and try sonmething else but the fear of seziure in switching is scarey. please help.

The Dilantin is metabolized in the liver.  Certain meds can alter (enhance or slow down) it metabolism.  Is your husband on other medications or does he take ANY health supplements?  Quix

People are switched on their meds all the time.  If it is done carefully, with overlapping of the two meds, and under the guidance of a neurologist it should not be a problem.  Good luck, Quix
