wrist fusion?

wrist fusion?

Ok so about a year and a half ago I broke both of my wrists (falling on out-stretched hands).  I had ORIF on both and then hardware removal on both.  The right scaphoid then developed AVN.  This July (2009) my doctor talked about doing a bone graft, but upon opening me up found another fracture and figured that was the problem so I had another screw put in.  My pain persisted and in December (2009) he went back in to scope the wrist and resected a major nerve that innervates the wrist in order to control the pain.  The bone is still avascular and I am having persistant pain both at rest and especially with any movement; this is more pain than he thinks I should be having and said that the only thing left to salvage the wrist would be a partial wrist fusion.  I guess I am wondering if this is really my only option because I am only 23 years old and really hate to have this done at such a young age.
