He really needs to get professional help. That would be the best thing for him. Withdrawal from any anti-anxiety medication can be dangerous. If he is truly addicted he needs to withdrawal with the help of a professional. They will help him withdrawal safely.

He could die from this- You will, not can, but WILL have withdrawls from xanax (benzodiazapenes) even if you take as directed, or even less than directed. The withdrawls are more serious than opiates.Alcohol and Benzo w/ds can kill you- he could go into delerium tremens, seizures & convulsions, high heart rate, high blood pressure. He needs a dr. don't fluff this off- this is the most serious crap to wd from- He can have wds up to 2 yrs & that is if he weans off of them. It took me 18 months to wean safely, and I still had wds. Please take care of him, this is very hard to go thru. Most Drs don't recognize wds from xanax. They don't want to admit the crap they prescribe can be so harmful. I don't know the age of your son, but more than anything he needs support. I will keep ya'll in my prayers. And God forbid, if he gets any kind of infection in the next few years, he better stay the heck away from Fluoroquinolone antibiotics such as cipro, avelox & levaquin. They will attack his already compromised nervous system. I have been thru it & almost freaking died. the dr never checked on contraindications. Left me w/ an enlarged heart & IST.

As to whether Xanax withdrawal is a problem depends on how much he is taking. If he is an addict why is a doctor writing him prescriptions? I would change doctors and explain the problem to the new doctor. By the way, how much is he taking?

Hi there. xanax withdrawal symptoms include nausea, vomiting, rapid heartbeat, palpitations,  memory loss, dizziness, panic attack, seizures, headaches, restlessness etc. because xanax works by slowing down the brain’s activity , when a individual stops taking this, the brain’s activity can rebound and potential seizures may be caused along with the above. you need to consult a health care provider to take care of your son during this crucial phase and may even need intensive hospital care. Take care.
