cauda equina

I had surgery on 12-18-09, fusion of L4-L5-S1 due to spondlythesis. I experienced numbness in my saddle region and had no control over my bowels or urine. My bladder had no sensation. I asked the neurosurgeon if I could ave cauda equina. He said no, that he was not in that area. 1-29-10 I had a second surgery to relocate a pedicle screw that was touching a nerve. Yesterday I went to him and explained that I still have the numbness. He still argued that I did not have it and went to get a medical book. When he came back he apologized and said you were right I thought you meant cauda mellitus. I was wondering if you could help me and let me know if my nerves will regenerate and how long will it take?
