chronic microvascular ischemic changes

I want to know what is the meaning of BILATERAL SUBCORTICAL WHITE MATTER HYPODENSITIES ARE IDENTIFIED AND MAY CORRELATE WITH CHRONIC MICROVASCULAR ISCHEMIC CHANGES?

this is seen in brain MRI, and correlates with a chronic lack of oxygen to these areas, and a underlying cause should be known.. the most popular is aging, then diabetic or other atherosclerotic causes
