What would it take to get this group going?

I like the informality of this group and find it sad that it has all but died.  So . . . if anyone happens to read this, what do YOU think we could do to bring life back to this group?  It doesn't need to be a pro Republican or Pro Democrat group but a place where all things in the news could be discussed.  Right?  Wish it would take off a little . . .  I like talking to myself and all but I do enough of that already . . .

Hmm...I think it's just a matter of getting people's attention and getting them over here.  A few well placed pm's and notes perhaps?  I'll help you out if you are really serious about getting it back on track.  I like the informality as well, problem can be that without a mod, certain people can get very very nasty if not agreed with.  It would have to be a group for the hearty that's for sure!

If the group gets started again someone might want to volunteer for that position (although it would not be me) to keep the discussions on an even keel.  I also agree with the original post and think sometimes to keep a discussion going people have to agree to disagree. One specific position isn't always right from either side.

Should I volunteer to be moderator?  (hm).

I think conversations that are just 'newsworthy' rather than strictly political would be great and yes, actual discussions that don't deteriorate into name calling or pouting.
I'm all for it.

Yep, think you should volunteer to be a mod.  I actually think that would be a positive thing..you are a conservative, but are never offended by a liberal perspective.  So I think you'd be a good choice..then we can start recruiting members.

Stories that are out of the mainstream would be a great start.
There are so many events happening around the world (and out of this world) that people can post - human interest stories, science, new discoveries, that type of thing.  Politics is fine too, but maybe topics other than what is in the CE forum.

And in case you missed my status - don't forget to look up (WITH PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR!) - on June 5 and 6 - it is the transit of Venus - Venus swings directly in front of the Sun and will be seen as a black dot moving along the front of the solar disk.   It will be the last transit of this CENTURY, so you don't want to miss it!

You'll miss it if you wait til Tuesday night - In North America it will be seen Tuesday afternoon. You will see Venus crossing in front of the Sun.   It will appear as a black dot.  The protective eyewear is pretty much the same as you would use during a solar eclipse - IMO, the best for viewing is #14 Welder's Glass - it HAS to be # 14 or darker or you could end up with damage to the retinas.

Lowe's sells welder's glass, or go to any welder's supply store, but the closer to the event, the harder it is to find.  They also make special viewing glasses that you can buy online, but it's a bit late for online purchases.
Check out earthsky dot org, and there is a link regarding how to protect your eyes.

Oh, and every day next week,  you should be able to see an early morning moon shortly after sunrise - just look SSW...
