Bad night with possible bad news.

So yesterday I started having EXTREME pains in my belly which I knew was not baby related but after 3 hours went to the ER the baby was fine, and they gave me some morphine, told me to make an appointment with my midwife and gastrologist, maybe something was up with my gall bladder...So today I call my midwife just to let her no and she says she'll call me in some tagament and says I need to talk to you, and offcourse I knew what it was about, I had my Quad Screening last week and there was an abnomality, she said that my baby has a 1/200 chance of having Spina Bifida and that when I have my Anatomy Scan on the 24th if they still suspect that, I may need to consider having a amnio. I offcourse starting crying I never even thought about spina bifida, downs yes because of family history but NEVER spina bifida, so now i have that to think about until the 24th and I know that doesnt mean that the baby has that, I read that out of the babies that have positive test only 1 or 2 will have it..Sorry for the long post but Im really upset. Im also gonna post this in the 21 to 34 forum.

I have heard so many times of people I know having false positives on their quad tests so please do not stress out.A friend of mine works in the neonatal dept and she told me of a case where the doctors were positive that a baby had major deformities right up until birth. The hospital was under alert for when the baby would come. The baby was 100% healthy and perfect, evryone was astounded. So you see, they dont know everything. Please keep positive.Can they not move the appt up.

Wel if I get any more stressed than I am they WILL move the test up, I know that what Im feeling cannot be good for the baby, so if I dont get straightened out by tomorrow I will call and reschedule....thanks for your reply

Beware of false positives.....and pray on this one.  Im sad for your stress right now but be patient on this until you get certain if there is anything wrong or not.  And the stress is not good for you or baby.  

Downs isnt generational.... its a simple genetic mutation that is totally random.  My nephew has Downs and its no where in my family history or his fathers. And I have a co-worker who's daughter has spina bifida and I dont know a thing about it other than her 8 yr old acts and plays like any other kid.  She doesnt move or look different in any way. So no matter what issues arise God wont give you more than you can handle.  Keep your head up.

I was also warned about false positives on the Quad Screening.  I hope that is the case with you.  I hope having an amnio will ease your mind.  Keep us undated!  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hang in there over the next few days!!!  Try to think of it this way, your baby has a 199/200 chance of being perfectly normal.

Im not having the amnio, theres just no way I would do that......Yea I have been doing alot of research and I feel better about the situation. Thanks everyone

Hang in there girl...trust me..I know what you are going through....

With my NT scan results there was a study that showed 17/182 kids with that rating would have Down's or defects.  I stressed for the next month until my level II.  Crying...depressed...disconnected....

She ended up being fine and I was so relieved.

Know that we are thinking about you and your family and praying for you.  Sending you tons of warm hugs and good thoughts.  Stay strong.  I won't say don't stress, cause I know its impossible.  Just do what you can to focus on the positive.

The more and more research I do the more I feel better, and another thing IF this baby has s/b I hardly think it has any paralysis he just moves around so much, and we seen him move arms and legs on the last u/s,  hopefully things will turn out good. Thanks again everyone
