Oh No Worried Babies & Fleas :(

Oh No Worried Babies & Fleas :(

We adopted a cat from someone in Mid July, she ended up peeing and pooing everywhere so we had to get rid of her, shes been gone for almost 4 weeks now, since my baby is on the way.
What we didn't bother concerning about was, she had really dry skin as well, I don't know what caused it, we took great care of her and she was itching like crazy all the time. I thought it was just because of the dry skin...we checked for fleas, cause my old cat from 4 years ago had bad fleas so I was concerned about that and was itching like that. We didn't notice any....maybe we weren't looking hard enough.
Can fleas cause dry skin? Well it doesn't matter anymore really because we don't have her anymore, but just for next time. I hope to have a cat soon in the future, once my baby is up and walking etc.
But I just didn't get it. She has been gone for 4 weeks. I noticed a couple of weeks ago that I have had bites on my legs and ankle, asked my spouse to see if he had any and he hasn't which was weird. Then just maybe a few days ago I spilled something on the floor and noticed a flea!!
I just started broke down crying. Why now!!! I am 37 weeks so I am due anytime now.
So I figured out why my spouse didn't get bites, because I am home most of the time and he is at work all day, so figure that. Even though I have experienced with fleas before I feel so horrible not being more serious about it since a baby is coming.
I just read online if you put a flea collar in the vacuum it could work, or put some sort of laundry detergent (powder) on the floor and then vacuum it up.
This apartment isnt very good either way, you see sentapeas and ear wigs every once and a while eww, we are planning to move, just when we finally have everthing for the baby, and try and see if we can budget for christmas, holy smokes all so close together.
But anyways sorry for it being so long, what I want to ask is, is the collar and detergent a good idea. I wanna get the spray too either way, but is that healthy for me being pregnant? And how about when the baby comes, I am so worried about that when the baby is here.
I know what to do, but I havent had a baby and fleas before!!
Help :(

I have 3 dogs and 1 cat so I know the flea situation pretty good, lol.  If you are considering to put the detergent down, you have to use the Tide powder kind.  And sprinkle it all over your carpet and it is best to let it sit for a little while.  And then vacuum your carpet really slow.  Then once you have a full vacuum, (if you have the kind that you dump) you must take it out side to dump it.  Do not do it in your apartment.  Make sure you vacuum a couple of times.  It takes a while to get it all up.  Good luck and try not to worry to much at least you caught it now and not later.
