by sdbaby, Apr 01, 2008 12:43PM
I went today for u/s. I was measuring 6w4d, but accdg to LMP 6w6d,  we saw yolk sac & fetus. But Dr. said she could tell heart beat rate  in another 16 days. Why didnt we listen  the heartbeat?
When do you all listen to heartbeat in week 6 or later?

We got to hear the heartbeat at 7 weeks; but it is my understanding from others on this forum that this was unusual, and normally you won't hear it until 9 weeks or so. I am a high risk pregnancy, and have weekly trans-vaginal ultrasounds, so that's probably why I got to hear mine so early.

At 6 weeks you wouldn't be able to hear a heartbeat...usually around 9 or10 weeks with a dopplar they're able to pick it up..with my 1st pregnancy we heard the heartbeat at 9 weeks and the dr. was kinda suprised...I went yesterday for an u/s and saw a heartbeat...I'm 7w3d today...I can't wait to go back in 2 weeks for my 2nd appointment..I should be able to hear the heart by then..if not then the next visit!  You'll probably get to hear the heartbeat at your next visit...it'll be one that you'll never forget!!!  Best wishes!

You usually don't hear it until later..I had some slight bleeding (or something) yesterday so I went in and they decided to do an ultrasound and we got to SEE the heartbeat. and they confirmed I'm where they thought I should be...about 6wks. :) I am hoping its a good sign. Don't fret though! all is normal! I think I read somewhere that you usually hear it around 8-14wks...I can't wait to hear our tiny's heartbeat!
