NUTRITION MANAGEMENT FOR PETS EXPERT FORUM
Orijen

Orijen

I was just wondering if anyone had any input or stories about Orijen, especially it's puppy formulas.  I work at a large independent pet store and we have had many puppies now that have grown up on orijen but their muscles are hugely overgrown for the age, we are talking massive bulking.  The weird thing is that the dog that are the most affected such to be any bully breed such as pit bulls, staffies etc.  However if the dogs are moved on to the food after about 10 months old we see no difference in muscle growth.

Any stories or input?  The classes I have taken in biochemistry and metabolism  (unfortunely human based) as well as the developmental biology class doesn't explain how this is possible.

I have had no experience with this brand of food.  Like anything in life, however, some people love it and others don't.  See: http://www.rateitall.com/i-949636-orijen.aspx

It is a Canadian company and I don't know that they have any better knowledge of canine nutrition than any other company that hires expert scientists.  There are HUNDREDS of pet food companies.  The smaller they are the more cautious I am about them.  Just because they don't have the resources to hire the best, buy the best, and we can't investigate their track record, and follow their dogs for years etc.

I one that does not like experimenting with this sort of thing.

That said, they may be great. Their site is:  http://www.orijen.ca/orijen/about/
