Concern about My daughter's health growth

by Sonal05, Oct 23, 2009 11:41PM
My daughter is 3 and 10 months old and has started showing less interest in food. Now also she is very picky. She is growing at a very slow rate than the other kids of her age. She is otherwise very active and energetic. She is ok with milk, not good though. I give her milk three times a day. She never tells me for any food.
She is gaining weight and height at a very slow rate. She has weight 13 kgs. Please help!!

I have tried different things to make her busy during her meal time, but nothing helped. How I can improve her weight. Many people pointing on weakness of her, I am afraid…  Please explain diet plan for improve weight… she is having one problem… she have one kidney… So please suggest me some digestive things… not affect on her kidney…

Her weight is on the 10th percentile for her age which indicates her weight is in the growth chart and normal for her age. You stated she has one kidney. Was she born with one kidney or was one removed recently? If it was removed recently, what was the cause? Sorry for the questions, however, it will help me to answer your question properly. Thank you.

At her age her body has adjusted to having one kidney so she does not have to be on any special diet unless she is having issues you have not stated. Based on her weight / age, she should be consuming approximately 1500-1800 calories per day as recommended the following; Fruits (limit fruit juices) = 1.5 cups; Vegetables 2.5 cups; Grains (cereals, breads) = 6oz equivalents; Meat & beans = 5oz equivalents; Dairy products (milk, yogurt) = 3 cups; Oils = 5 tsp; Additional calories to be used discretionary = 195. This food needs to be divided up between 3 meals and snacks between meals daily. Sounds like she does not eat much per meal, as you wrote, so make sure she is eating a protein food each meal (meat, fish, cheese, or yogurt) and try milkshakes instead of milk to help give her additional calories and protein for weight gain. Hoped this helped you.
