Cut calories/gain weight

Cut calories/gain weight

I'm a female, 5ft 3.5 inches, 135 pounds.  Due to hip joint problems (which I will be having surgery for next week) I have not be able to exercise and have gained about 8 pounds in the last year.  It used to be that all I'd have to do is cut my caloric intake and I'd see some weight loss.  Now that I'm 38 it isn't that easy.  Lately my problem is this:  I'll eat better, cut down on starch and sugar intake, eat more fresh fruit and veggies.  After 3 days I'd weigh myself on a digital scale just to see what's happening.  I wouldn't expect to lose really, but I don't expect to gain either.  Well, I do!  I gain a pound!  I weigh myself at the same time, before breakfast, no clothes, everything the same and I gain a pound.  So, out of frustration, I'll eat whatever I want for 2 - 3 days, feel bad about it, and get back on the scale.  And what happens, I lose the pound!  How does this happen?  It's not just once, but 3 times now over the past 6 weeks.  How crazy is that?  What's happening?

Are you cutting out meals too? When we skip meals, our body goes into a "starvation mode" in which it saves fat because it does not know when food will come again and weight loss usually does not occur. Fruits and vegetables do contain high amounts of water, and the water maybe the extra weight due to the additional lack of exercise. You can still exercise your arms and upper body. Even though the total body is not moving you are still moving a part of the body and burning calories. With your surgery so close I suggest you wait until after your surgery to try to loss the weight. Hope this helped you.

Consult your doctor but you can also probably exercise in water without hurting yourself. Try walking in a pool.
Most weight quickly gained or quickly lost is water.
