Dieting for Acid Reflux

Dieting for Acid Reflux

Hi there,

I'm an eighteen year old male, who has acid reflux. I'm currently on Zantac 150mg -twice a day. In addition, I also take iron supplements ( ferrous  gluconate, 300mg, once daily) because my iron is low and Vit C supplements because I stay away from acidic foods/drinks. I have changed my diet, staying away from the trigger foods and was recommended to eat protein filled foods, because I tend to always be hungry every 2 hours, partially because I eat small portions. I recently purchased brown rice protein, but noticed for its dose of 1 scoop (20g), it has 40% of Iron. Is it safe to continue to use the iron supplements once daily, vit C, and the brown rice protein?
\Thanks in advance

The recommended daily intake of Iron supplement for anyone over the age of 14 years old is 45mg/day. If the brown rice protein and your iron supplements are above 45mg, then suggest not using the brown rice protein.
Suggest you take your vitamin C supplement with your iron supplement due to vitamin C helps absorb iron in the body.  It sounds like you know about acid reflux. Here are additional tips as follows: Eating behaviors: 1. Smaller, frequency meals 5-6 times a day helps keeps the stomach acid and pressure much more even than 3 large meals daily, 2. Eat slowly, not too quickly. Putting your fork down between bites would help to slow down your rate of eating, 3. Sit up while eating and remain sitting or standing 45-60 minutes after eating, 4. Stop eating any foods 2-3 hours before you go to bed. Food: 1. Avoid high fat foods (fatty, greasy, fried foods) because they stay in the stomach longer, 2. Avoid spicy food, 3. Certain types of food cause issues and avoid them – Chocolate, Peppermint, Caffeinated drinks (coffee, tea, soda), and Alcohol, 4.Try not to consume any foods or beverages that cause discomfort. Hoped this helped you.
