Intermittent fasting is healthy.  However, not for people who do not eat proper nutrition.

The thing about fasting is to force your body to burn fat during the fasting period, however, if you are someone who eats high carb and high protein and low fat, intermittent fasting is too strong a switch.  During fasting, you should burn fat, and to do this, insulin levels must be low.  If during your fasting window you have high insulin circulating in your body, you will not be able to burn fat AND your blood sugar will go so low that you will feel fatigued and lethargic.

In order to fast, you should not eat foods that are highly insulinogenic.  Highly insulinogenic foods are simple carbs and ultra high protein without any fat.  By eating moderate level of protein (0.5 grams to 1 gram protein per pound of lean body mass) and avoid the "white stuff" as in flour, rice, pasta, sugar, etc, which will create high spike in blood sugar.  Also, make sure you get fat in your meals (from healthy sources like avocado, butter, olive oil, coconut oil, etc and not fake fats like margarine).  This way, you will be on a "slow burn" and not promote insulin secretion into your blood.  Keep this in mind:  insulin secretion will counteract fat burning, which in turn will counter act fasting.

Fasting has a number of health benefits, including improved cardiovascular health, reduced cancer risk, gene repair, and increased longevity
Research shows that you can get most if not all of the same benefits of severe calorie restriction through intermittent fasting, where you feast on some days and cut calories on others
One of the primary mechanisms that makes intermittent fasting so beneficial for health is related to its impact on your insulin sensitivity
Intermittent fasting helps reset your body to burn fat for fuel
Mounting evidence shows that when your body becomes adapted to burning fat instead of sugar as your primary fuel you dramatically reduce your risk of chronic disease
People that would be best served to avoid fasting include those living with chronic stress (adrenal fatigue), and those with cortisol dysregulation. Pregnant or nursing mothers should also avoid fasting.
