Flushed face when dieting

Everytime I start to diet, I end up giving up becasue of this flushed/full feeling I get in my face the entire time.  When I start to diet, I do the following basics: eat 5 times per day, lean proteins, 2 dairy, whole grains like Ezekiel bread and brown rice, veggies with every meal.  I cut out refined flour and sugars, etc.  However, a few hours into doing this, my face becomes very flushed and full feeling and very red. Sometimes my chest does too, but mostly my face. It feels hot and as if it might pop off.  This usually lasts the whole time. I have dieted for weeks at a time and still get the feeling. My doc has tested me for diabetes and hypo-glycemia....both negative.  Although I change what I eat, I don't eat things I wouldn't normally eat. I eat whole grain bread at times, etc, and never have a reaction.   It is very frustrating and causes me to give up. Who can deal with the feeling that their face and head might blow up???????? What could be causing this??????

From what you have stated, the "flushed" feeling occurs after eating food, mainly from sitting, regardless if you are dieting or not. It goes away from activity if I understand you correctly. I recommend have your MD check you for gastric issues. You are appropriately 85lbs overweight and need to loss weight. If you want to loss weight, it is eating healthy and exercise. You are young and all you need to do is increase your physical activities to 1/2 hour or more a day. That 1/2-hour or more can be broken up through the day, 10 minutes here and 20 minutes there. For example, park your car in the back of the parking lot and walk to the store. That will give you additional walking. After you eat maybe walk around fro 5-10 minutes and hopefully that will help the “flushed” feeling too. The foods you eat should come from other the food groups multi-grains (not wheat), fruits and dairy / meat. Eat low fat meats (chicken, fish, loin of pork) or non meat sources (soy products), low fat vegetarian combinations (rice & beans, pasta & beans, low fat cheese & pasta), fat free or low fat dairy products (skim milk, 1% milk, low fat cheese, low fat yogurts, low fat soy milk/yogurt), and eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. Eating daily high fiber breads and cereals (oatmeal). Portion control is important and here some general tips = ½ cup for all starches and vegetables; one piece of fruit or ½ cup of small fruits; 1 cup for low fat dairy products, and only 3oz of low fat meat or protein substitution a meal (only 6ozs total a day). To help eat less food pre meal, eat about 7-10 almonds, 20 minutes before lunch and dinner so you will feel full faster and not eat as much food.  Do not be discouraged, weight loss can be a slow process but the slower you loss, the higher chance it will stay off. Think of this new way of eating as your new healthy lifestyle and not as a diet. That will help you to keep your weight off, and keep your body healthy. Best of luck.

Also, this feeling is much worse mid day and afternoon and while I am siting. (I work at a desk all day). It is eased by walking, laying down, etc. And when I go home in the evening, it is virtually gone.  It is mainly while I am sitting at work. It doesn't happen on the weekends while I am home, cleaning and running around, etc.

I am 28, 5 feet 4, about 215 pounds. I eat everything. Although I eat fast food and such, I also love sushi, home cooked food, etc. I cook most nights of the week and a variety of things. I eat just about any and everything, including veggies, etc. Even the bread I eat when I am not dieting is Sara Lee Whole Grain White. I eat Brown rice occassionally as well.
