Foods That Lower Cholesterol

by CarrieCusu, Feb 20, 2007 12:00AM
Friends of mine (a husband and wife couple) have been diagnosed with high cholesterol levels, and are extremely worried about what is appropriate for them to be eating now. We heard that apples are good for brniging down cholesterol, and oatmeal too. Are there any other foods that you could recommend for quickly and efficiently bringing down cholesterol levels? Thanks, Carrie.

I don't know of any foods that neccasaraly (sp) lower chol. But intake foods that need to be cooked, baked. Avoid things in a box or package. Intake olive oil keep cold though, if you want a cooking oil use grape seed oil. There are also some supplements that can help. Like garlic, a natural dr told me consume till urine smells of garlic. They need to do research on this. Stay away from white flour products this increases triglicerides (triglycerides) and milk does too. eat more fiberous foods, whole grains, lots of GREEN veg's, baked chicken and fish, very little beef, and of course fruit. I hope this helps.

Good luck

We have a friend that had very high cholesterol. He was drinking fresh salary juice every day and it lowered his cholesterol. I think you need to drink as much as you can a day. Good luck.

Bran.  Find it in the hot cereal section made by Quaker.  There should be a bran muffin recipe on the back of the box.  I eat 3 muffins a day.  I got my recipe from a book about high cholestrial.  You can probably put in the address field  (high chol. recipes)or something like that and get lots of ideas. Bananas are good for FIBER too but higher in calories than other fruit.

Apparently tofu helps a lot but not everyone likes it. And I do believe in those apples. That is one fruit I have eaten tons of since childhood, really tons. And in my family where everyone inherited high cholesterol levels without being overweight or eating bad fats, I have so far been the first one who has normal levels.

yes, I agree with the words of live4fitness. It all requires your strong dedication to do that. Eat lot of veg., dry fruits like almonds cashew nuts . Some fruits like papaya helps you really in burning the fat. The most important than all these is physical exercise. Choose any one among Yoga or Cardio exercises through which u can reduce fats in a natural and healthy manner. Honey with 2 spoons of lime juice in a 300ml water prevents in falling sick at the time of fasting.. I hope this information helps you...

when using fats be absolutely sure to use omega oils, olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, soybean oil, sumflower oil, corn oil, flaxseed oil. Avocados, nuts, salmon, trout, and all cold water fish carry the "Good Fats" which help deliver the "Bad Fats" out of the body which in turn decreases cholesterol.

Exercise, drink water, eat fruits and vegetables.

Do not eat baked foods, fatty greasy foods.

Good Luck

Aples yes, and artichokes, avacados, beans and lentils (because of soluble fibre), blueberries, cinnamon, garlic, onion, peppers, nuts, mushrooms, oatmeal, olives, pomegranate juice, guava, noni juice, brown rice, and spinach all have great properties to help lower cholesterol.

Hope this helps you.
