Hep C

My dad has been diagnosed with Hep C and can't afford medical treatment, is there any foods that he should not be eating to help his liver not act up? I really need to help him any way that i can and maybe if i give him a list of foods that are good and not good i am hopeing it will help him until he can afford treatment.

With Hepatitis C the virus can lay dormant in the body for years and not have symptoms. Then it starts to have symptoms and if it goes untreated it may lead to cirrhosis of the liver or cancer of the liver, which most of the time is fatal. The medication today has been able to keep the virus in check for longer periods of time then before. Consuming a diet low in fat would help the liver with any disease. The less fat in our digestive system, the less the liver has to work to break it down. Eat low fat meats (chicken, fish, loin of pork) or non meat sources (soy products), low fat vegetarian combinations (rice & beans, pasta & beans, low fat cheese & pasta), fat free or low fat dairy products (skim milk, 1% milk, low fat cheese, low fat yogurts, low fat soy milk/yogurt), and eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. Eating daily high fiber breads and cereals (oatmeal). I suggest your Dad look into trying to get help for treatment too.
