High Folate

by JOHNJULIESLOVE3, Feb 09, 2009 05:49PM
I just received my labs back. I am kind of confused on what's going on here. Everything in the general chemistry is normal, with the exception of Folate is 35.66 and Cholesterol is low at 120. Is there reasoning behing the Folate being more then double what is normal?

What was your Vitamin B12 level? If you did not have that measured, then suggest getting that done. Studies show that if the Folate is elevated it may be due to a vitamin B12 deficiency. Suggest repeating the cholesterol and getting it broken down by the different cholesterols to see which ones are low vs. high. If your 'bad' cholesterols are low, that is a very good sign.

Your Vitamin B12 is within normal limits and your cholesterol break down is great! The Folate level is only about 10 points above normal which is nothing to be concerned about since your Vitamin B12 is normal. You want to have the LDLs cholesterol low and HDL higher as your levels are.
