L-Lysine and LDL

by caw61, Dec 13, 2008 06:37AM
I have been taking 2000mgs to 3000 mgs daily of L-Lysine. I have had increases in My LDL since I have been taking L-Lysine. There are other factors involved such as a decrease in exercise etc. I am curious to know, if LDL is supposed to be lowered by Lysine, why would mine go up? When I researched it initially for the use of suppression for Herpes, It stated the if the person had a history of elevated cholesterol that, Lysine could raise the LDL.  It seems there are alot of conflicting stories regarding Lysine. I am discontinuing it for a month due to my increase in LDL as well as the fact that, I do not want to go on a statin drug, thus, I am treating it with red yeast rice for now.
Lysine has helped suppress the herpes very well, but, I am very concerned about the effects - moreseo than that of taking acyclovir 400mgs or more daily for suppression.
Are there any other natural remedies to help with the suppression of genital herpes? My area is located on the inner part of my thigh which has been suppressed very well with the use of Lysine. Today I feel I am at a loss due to the fact I have to discontinue it to see if it will change my numbers for LDL.
Your hlep in this matter would be greatly appreciated, as my primary care physician knew nothing really about Lysine other than the fact that she felt I was taking quite a high dose.
Thank you.
Carol

It is not a well known fact of biochemistry, but lysine WILL raise cholesterol,
it's what often does it in meat that packs the double whammy of saturated fat
and lysine, as meat has a higher lysine content than other protein foods.
Interesting, in that you noticed this, you hit upon as I say, not a well known
issue.
You are in a tough spot, but try lots of vitamin C for the herpes virus.
