L-Tyrosine

by AliBarri, Jun 15, 2009 08:03PM
I was on the anti-depressant Celexa and anti-anxiety med Visteral for a year and a half. I weaned myself off of them and stopped altogether a few months ago. I could not stand the appetite increase (especially for carbs) and subsequent weight gain. I have read that anti-depressants often have this effect because they release an enzyme that triggers hunger and slows metabolism. I have been thinking about taking L-Tyrosine to counteract the effects. I also read that this is a natural anti-depressant. I am already taking a multi-vitamin, vitamin E and resveratrol once a day, and calcium with D and Omega oil twice a day. Any thoughts about L-Tyrosine?

The major concern of taking single amino's is creating an imbalance.
In my own personal opinion, as long as it's a reasonable dose, and it works,
and you ingest proper protein amounts normally, I think its ok.
L-Tyrosine works on the thyroid which of course controls everything basically,
and makes up part of the thyroid hormone when your body makes it.
This is one way it can help someone feel better.  Neurotransmitters are often tied
into amino's of one sort or another, so they can help.
