LACTOSE INTOLERENT TEENAGER *HELP*

MY 17 YEAR OLD WAS DIAGNOSED WITH LACTOSE INTOLERENCE ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO, ONLY AFTER HAVING HAD EVERY IMAGINABLE TEST DONE.  HE IS TAKING LACTAID AND IT DOES NOT HELP.  HE IS VERY THIN AND HAS LOST MORE WEIGHT IN THE PAST YEAR.  DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANY REMEDY OTHER THAN LACTAID?  I HAD READ SOMETHING ABOUT THREELAC AND/OR FLORASTOR FOUND IN HEALTH FOOD STORES.  I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF EITHER OF THEM.  ANY SUGGESTION?  P.S.- HE ALREADY AVOIDS ALL MILK PRODUCTS, BUT MANY ITEMS 'SNEAK' THE MILK IN THE SMALL PRINT UNDER INGREDIANTS.

Well, since milk isn't for mammals past weaning anyway, just avoid milk.  You will have to read labels carefully, but I'm going to hazard a guess that if most dairy has been eliminated, the weight loss isn't due to that.  Lactose intolerance can cause a lot of symptoms, but not necessarily weight loss.  Depends on the person and how much diary they're consuming.  Most humans lack the enzyme to digest milk, but they don't lose weight by drinking it -- mostly they get gas and inflammation and other subtle things they don't notice.  I'd keep searching.
