Thank you very much for your reply.
i will follow your diet till i see my doctor.
i really appreciate your help
Firstly, don't worry there are diets that are very safe for suger levels and will help during your pregnancy for the suger levels that drop during the day. I had gestational diabetes for my 3 children and after the birth it disappeared and everything returned to normal each time.
The hospital nutritionist helped me to change my diet so that I was eating the right food and feeling full. Here was a typical day's diet for me:
Breakfast: 30g wholewheat bread with lowfat butter/margarine, 1 bowl of Special K and low fat (1%) milk and herbal tea.
Lunch: Rice or pasta or couscous salad with a variety of beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots etc and either fish or white meat (grilled preferably with herbs). Plain Yoghurt and 1 piece of fruit.
Mid afternoon snack (very important): 1 piece of fruit and low fat plain yoghurt (Activa are great).
Dinner: Cooked green veg, sauted potatoes and either fish or white meat or lentils. Sometimes I would just have a vegetable soup. Fruit.
At each meal you should always have a carb (to fill you up and give you energy), protein and veg/salad. The only bread I ate was in the morning and if I wanted cheese it was only at lunch or afternoon snack instead of yoghurt.
I ate like this for 9 full months (ie no refined sugar whatsoever) and I only gained 9kg (18 lbs) during the whole pregnancy and my energy levels were great and the blood sugar levels were always within range.
I hope this has helped you, I am sure others will be able to add their advice too.
Good luck with your pregnancy.
