My Child Is Under Weight

My Child Is Under Weight

I am Having The same Problem as S__. My Son Is will be 11 on June 10th. I just got a letter from his school stating that he has a BMI of 11%. He is 64lbs and is 4' 7" tall. He is very very active. The only thing wrong with him is he has had asthma since he was 6 months old and has been on alot of meds. He is not at all a picky eater but i can't seem to figure out what to feed him and how much to help him gain some weight. Oh ya he is starting pop warner in aug. and it would be nice if we can have him gain some weight before then

Your son for his age is on the smaller size for his height and weight. It may be due to genetics or he has not come into his next big growth stage yet. Boys start growing tall in puberty about 12 years old and can continue to grow until 21 years old. From the height and weight you stated, I calculated a BMI of 15 which is in the 5th percentile for his age. It is great he is not a picky eater. Give him milkshakes or Carnation Instant Breakfast as a milkshake once a day; and make sure he is eating 3 balanced healthy meals a day and snacks between meals, if possible. I know some schools do not allow eating in the classrooms and he may not be able to snack between meals. Each meal should have a protein source (meat or egg), dairy source (milk or yogurt or cheese), carbohydrate source (bread or cereal or pasta / rice / potato), vegetable source (fresh / cooked) and fruit. Hope this helped you.
