Need help with diet

I am 29 years old, diagnosed with autoimmune hypothyroidism in January this year and I have been told by a private nutritionist to follow a diet plan.

However there seems to be very little protein, fibre and carbohydrate and to complicate matters further I have been told by her that I am lactose intolerant (to the casein in milk) and I will need to cut out gluten. If that isn't bad enough despite being hypothyroid I am losing weight and am finding it difficult to regain any.

I currently weigh 7 stone 4 pounds/46.5 kilograms/105 pounds. I am 5'3" tall.

My friends have advised me that my diet plan is not high in fibre content and some have suggested I take up the autoimmune paleo diet, however this diet excludes nightshades (potatoes) which would help in increasing my fibre intake.

So I am now stuck and have no idea what I can do.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply.

I have ordered a private blood test to have done as I don't see my endocrinologist until May 20th. This is for TSH, T3, T4 and thyroid antibodies as I want to see what my antibodies are doing since being on the synthetic T4.

The private labs I have ordered it through do not specialise in T1 or T2 unfortunately.

TSH isn't the appropriate test.  If you had a great endocrinologist, and nobody does, they'd test all four of your actual specific thyroid hormones, not the generalized TSH.  If you're not feeling right trust your instinct and tell your endocrinologist you don't think the synthetic hormone is adjusted correctly and want at least to know how T3 and T4 are doing, if not T1 and 2 as well, not just TSH.

Thanks for your answer.

Yes, I do have Hashimoto's. I am on Thyroxine at 100mcg but have felt no benefit on this despite lab results showing my TSH at normal range.

Celiac disease was tested and was negative.

Thanks

Excuse me, are you saying you have Hashimoto's?  Because as far as I know if you do your thyroid is toast.  You should be on synthetic thyroid.  This is based on you saying you have an autoimmune disorder causing your thyroid to not work, and again, that generally means Hashimoto's and again, I know of no natural treatment for Hashimoto's because it kills the thyroid off.  So do you have this, or just a low thyroid?  Because there's no diet for Hashimoto's I know of.  And for other hypothyroid problems where the thyroid is still functioning, the treatment is iodine containing foods such as seaweed.  Now, you may have ciliac disease, but only a diagnosis will tell you that -- I can see not eating dairy, it's not good for anyone, but if you don't have ciliac the only grain we should all avoid is wheat.  So I'm confused here.  Also, there are tons of foods that contain protein and tons of food that contain fiber --- legumes contain a lot of both, in fact.  So again, this is very confusing as to why you can't get sufficient nutrients just because you're skipping foods a lot of people skip, such as nightshades, dairy and wheat (see the macrobiotic diet for example) without sacrificing any nutrients.  You just get them elsewhere.
