Sodium feredetate is the preferred iron source treatment of iron deficiency now. It is in a chewable tablet form which helps it to break down quicker in the GI tract; iron is released and absorbed. Ferrous ascorbate (combination of Iron and Vitamin C) is a good iron source too; however, it may irritate a peptic ulcer or colitis.
