Spotting Healthy Foods

Hi mates,

One of the most important things to understand about healthy foods is that the more a food deviates from its natural state, the more it looses its nutritious value. If you want to satisfy your appetite for sweets the natural way, you can go for fresh fruits and berries. Whole vegetables possess lots of vitamins and minerals. So, try to eat as much as green, orange and yellow vegetables as you can.

You can steam these vegetables so that they retain most of their nutritional value. It is not at all advisable to show a craving for sauces as they may have excessive calorie content and too much fats that are not good for your health. Any baked goods or pasta should be made from whole grains. Try to eliminate pastries and sugary snacks from your diet. An apple makes you healthy, an apple pie really do not. hehe, you are so right and I so wish I would follow your recommendations every day.  Ahhh, the human in us!  I do notice a huge difference when I eat the way you say, but we all fall back now and then.  It's just best to eat the way you say most often and fall off the wagon now and then for special occasions.  =)

So true! I have noticed too many people will boil vegetables for several minutes, and by the time the food is served the vegetables are limp, colorless, and less healthy for you than they were pre-boiling. A good way to know if you are over cooking veggies is if the water you cooked them in resembles the color of the vegetables before they were cooked. Steaming is the best way to do vegetables (aside from raw of course). If you don't have a steamer, just fill the pan with 1/2 inch-1 inch of water. Cover, and cook on the lowest setting. Check on the veggies after 10 minutes or so.
