Suggestions about over eating?

Suggestions about over eating?

I am a freshman in college, I've never had a weight problem (and still don't as of now) but I've noticed since I got here that I am much more likely to binge eat. I've only gained a couple pounds since the beginning of the year, but do you think that this could become a problem? And how can I help myself avoid binge eating?

I can only guess. Have you relocated to study at college, and don't have much new friends yet, and so spend lots of time alone? If that's the case, buying and eating lot's of stuff you like could come from the fact that you now buy your food alone (as opposed to  parents doing the grocery shopping for the family before?) and buy lots of stuff you like, and then when you're alone and remember good times, eat lots of stuff you really like and associate with good old times or something, food that you associate with positive things.
I caught myself doing things like that when I started studying far away from family and lived alone, knew no one etc. But my overall diet which consits mostly of not so high carb/calorie intense food, prevented me from getting fat *g* (not even overweight at all) But those "buy lots of chips and other snacks and pizza and whatnot" and then think I'd need to eat them all on one day, just because I have them available and they are delicious :D (where I wouldn't have gotten this kind of food all day when still living with parents), well such event's were pretty rare.

I mostly eat salads, (root) veggies, sprouts, fruit, sometimes some seeds, no animal products (but B12 pills ;) ), and a lot of people were telling me, this short excursions through junkfood land were due to mineral deficiencies etc.
Then I got blood tests done, and the doctor didn't want to believe that  I only eat those junk stuff so rarely and "normally" only what I've listed here. Why? Because she said, I had the best blood she had seen in quite some time :-)
As I came to her again a year later, to do such tests again (just to be sure), she refused to do that, because she thought it to be extremely unlikely for the parameters to have become worse, since they hadn't given the slightest hint of a developing deficiency...

So... reading about how some people can eat themselves really fat through emotional things, and realizing how I in fact partially do remember "good old times" or have at least vague feelings of that reoccurring to me, when thinking about food I liked as a youth, I came to the conclusion that also for me it's a thing that has to do with emotions, not mineral deficiencies. I can't get completely rid of positive associations with foods that I learned to like in childhood (apart from meat, but I never really "loved" meat anyway, wasn't edible to me without 10 pounds of ketchup *g*)

So well yeah, now I talked a lot... I hope it has anything to do with your case *lol*

I guess one method of avoiding eating too much of your favorite foods in one day, could be, try to hold yourself back from buying so much of that stuff at once. This makes only sense for junk food/sweets/high caloric stuff I guess. Try to not have too much / too many different things of your favorite snacks etc. available at home, but be sure to always have a lot of healthy, low-calorie stuff available. So if you're hungry again a half hour after eating a whole bag of potatoe chips, you might wanna eat some carrots instead of yet another bag of chips or "canned" potatoe salad with tons of mayo, or chocolate or...whatnot ;-)
Low calorie foods like most veggies and many fruits are not a problem even when eating lots and lots of them... so IF you can't find a solution from preventing yourself from eating much, be at least sure that a great percentage of what you eat are salads (with low calorie dressing of course ;) ) and veggies.
If you manage to not have "eating  attacks" *g* (maybe someone else here has good tips?), well then good for you :-)  Either way, including lots of veggies and stuff is a good idea anyway.
