Unable to have a bowel movement

Hi, Im 15 years old, female, and I cant have bowel movements without laxatives anymore. I havent become dependant on them, I stopped taking them a long time ago and when I was taking them it was seldom and not very high doses.

I cant pass faeces anymore!! One day I ate a whole 420g tin of baked beans containing 22.7grams of fibre! And I couldnt go! Thats excluding the wholegrains, veggies and other fibrous foods that I ate during that day. My diet is pretty balanced and I usually have sufficient fibre for a normal person to have a bowel movement... but i dont! This has been happening for a while now. Maybe 6 months?

I have lower abdominal pain, usually brought on by eating. Its more likely when I eat junk food, yoghurt, vegemite and bananas. My waist measures 32 inches and I weigh 52 kg. Im getting depressed about my body because I gain everywhere but in the back of my mind I wonder if its because I havent gone to the toilet... Help PLEASE

Hey Jay

Make sure your drinking plenty of water - you might want to include some Aloe vera juice as well which will lubricate your digestive system.

Get some slippery elm tablets and take one with each meal. Also mix in some flax seed oil into some plain yogurt with ABC strain probiotics.

Eat some coconut flesh and some prunes to help get your gut moving.

Also when you wake up in the morning, have a large glass of warm water.

During the day add some lemon juice to a glass of hot water. And have a shot or two of expresso to get things going.

Mix up your diet a bit, cut down on fatty substances and avoid anything artificial such as baked beans and commercial soups as they have additives that slow down your system. Get Normafibe or other fibre powder to take each day (start of slow and build up in quantity).

hey, I saw that you are including lots of whole grains and fibre to help with the lack of BMs, however are you including enough water? this is a common problem for many people who are trying to combat constipation. they load up on fibre but fibre only helps if it is 'swollen' with water. maybe this is a stupid suggestion and you are doing fine with the fluid intake, but i thought i'd throw it out there. also, BMs are only expected every 3 days depending on how much/little you eat, so consider that. if you are still having problems make sure to see your doctor, and if they are ignoring your issues, don't be afraid to be the 'squeaky wheel' to get what you need.

What sort of complications do you have?

Im still not regular but they have become much more frequent. However, my diet is much worse than when I posted this which doesn't make sense. perhaps concentrating on eating fibrous foods will slow defacation as the bowels have to work harder and they just cant cope? I dont know haha. Im just trying to figure things out.
Perhaps try having a normal diet and dont limit yourself to certain foods. Unless you start to feel really really sick, maybe go to an allergy specialist? Maybe you are intolerant to something?

What complications are you experiencing
