Vitamin D - low enough to cause symptoms?

Vitamin D - low enough to cause symptoms?

I apologize in advance if this isn’t the appropriate place to ask this.

After over a year of unrelenting muscle fatigue and pain, and numerous tests, my internist suspected that I was low in Vitamin D.  The results show 25 on a scale of 30-80. The lab report shows this as “insufficient” rather than “deficient.”  I am now taking a prescription Vitamin D, 1.25 mg, weekly for the next 3 months.

Is a Vitamin D “insufficiency” enough to cause symptoms, or would the results have to be lower in order to cause symptoms?

Thank you.

Insufficiency may cause symptoms. Bone loss occurs and osteomalacia, in adults (rickets in children), results due to Vitamin D deficiency. Impaired Calcium absorption occurs due to very low levels of the vitamin. You did not mention your Calcium levels and suggest getting it checked. Vitamin D is available through our foods - Fortified milk, breakfast cereals, egg yolks, fatty fish, fish oils, and the sun. Sit at a window with the sun shining in for about 1/2 hour (few times a week) and that will help you get enough Vitamin D. Research has indicated harmful and, possible toxic, effects from excess amounts of Vitamin D and it is recommended not to exceed supplement 200 IU per day for adults over 25 years old.
