Vomiting

Vomiting

I was wondering how to make yourself vomit.  I am not going to abuse the knowledge of doing so.  Is it a problem or is something wrong with me that I cannot make myself vomit?  I hear that if you feel really sick, you feel better immediately after throwing up.  I feel sick sometimes and have tried, but I only gag and if I try long enough a little bit of blood comes up with spit.  It freaks me out, is there something wrong with my throat muscle or something?  Also, I'm worried, if I overdose on a medicine I won't be able to purge it out.  That seriously scares me.  Please give me tips.
Thank you.

There is a "natural" reflex that makes you vomit when the body needs to do so. Making yourself vomit isn't a good idea at any time.  Generally vomiting by choice doesn't make you feel better, but can bring up stomach acids into the throat and sometimes out through the nose.  The acids burn tissue, smell bad and make you want to vomit more. When the acids and foods come out of the nose, there is no way of cleaning it out other than sniffing it up which makes it burn the nose more and it will again burn going down the now sore throat until it clears the nose.  Not a great way to "feel better".  If you are getting blood when you attempt to vomit, you are probably tring to stick your finger down your throat and tearing the lining with your fingernail.  Not a great idea.  There is nothing wrong with the reflex, the body just doesn't need to expell anything and you shouldn't either. Most of the time vomiting will make you feel worse and you will dehydrate and that is a whole new set of problems to deal with. If you ever need to make yourself vomit, there are products that your doctor can recommend you have on hand in the home. good luck

It's understandable that you gave me all that information in an attempt to frighten me out of it.  Why is it that others can make themselves vomit, but I cannot?  I tried for almost 20 whole minutes, became diheartened (quit), and had a sore throat the next few days.  I have lost some weight in the past few months and I doubt the doctor will want to prescribe me something that induces vomiting especially after I've gained a few pounds over the past few weeks.

I was not actually trying to scare you, just inform you what may occur.  I doubt anything is wrong with your gag reflex.  Some people just don't have one that is sensitive to touch. I would suggest you try the site for undiagnosed problems.  There may be someone there that is willing to answer your question better than here.  Good luck
