Worried what im eating is not right

by miscolobo, Oct 19, 2009 07:14PM
Hi doctor, im pretty worried about the foods i am consuming because i am having lots of health problems (cant sleep, bowel movements change color/texture from day to day...etc).

Heres a sample of my diet

Breakfast: -2 peanut butter sandwiches
               -milk
               -banana
               -yogurt

Lunch:
          -usually a sandwich with beef
          -water
          -a granola bar

Dinner
-rice w/ assorted meat and vegetables
        -water
        -soup

Snacks(throughout the day):
-3 granola bars (peanuts, almonds, blueberry)
-1/4 ziploc bag of toasted almonds

On mondays, wednesdays, fridays and sundays i drink 2 servings of protein shake 24g each serving because i do high intensity training.

What could be wrong with what i eat? I find it is very nutritious but my bowel movements are irregular and sleeping is shortening from 8hrs to 6hrs!

Your weight is just under the 75th percentile and your height is between the 75-50th percentile for your age which indicates normal for your age. For a teenager you are eating on the healthier side, however, not enough calories. For your age you need 2500-3000 calories per day for you to grow which will not end until your early 20's. To regulate your bowel movements, suggest eating more fiber foods and fresh fruit & vegetables. For whole grains, for example: oatmeal for breakfast, whole wheat breads, oatmeal cookies, bran muffins, whole-wheat pasta, and brown rice. All fruits except limit bananas and apples, they constipate and need to be limited if issues arise. Vegetables in any form, raw (salad) or cooked. Sleep changes are not usually diet related. Maybe other aspects of your life need to be looked at to get sleep. Check with your MD.
