by nicobella, Oct 24, 2005 12:00AM
Can anyone help me out here. I am trying to determine if my daily diet is ok...lacking or otherwise. Here is a sample....almost everyday is the same but may differ in variety of foos a little.::

breakfast:   1 or 2 eggwhites, sometimes toast, fruit, coffee

snack: carrots with peanut butter

lunch:  some kind of protein (tofu...turkey...so on) , veggie

dinner: protein again( fish or chicken mostly) veggie.

snacks: throughout the day i have one of the following as a snack:  pretzles, crackers..popcorn.

i do treat myself to lowfat ice cream too.
Am i eating too much throughout the day??

I forgot to mention about portions. When I say "protein" I usually have a small slice or piece of whatever i am eating. Maybe the size of a deck of cards. Veggie portion is between 1 and 2 cups. Snacks: a handful. maybe about 1/2 cup.

Types of protein i have: chicken, fish, tofu, soy burger or soy dog, cottage cheese, egg whites, beans

Types of veggies: salad, spinach, peas, corn, cauliflower, tomatos, broccoli, zuccini, green beans, cabbage, carrots.

always steamed without added buttert, oil or fat.

thanks.

Your meat portions sound right on track as a deck of cards is one serving. I would suggest eating more vegetables througout the day. In the morning just slice up a bunch of veggies you like. Try to get a variety of colors (green, red, orange, yellow etc) And keep these with you and snack on them during the day.

Try to eat them raw if possible. It helps to keep them at your computer desk or next to you as you watch TV. We often eat when doing a task without thinking about it or tasting the food.

I would avoid soy products as new info suggests they can deplete the body of certain minerals.

Other then that you seem to have a very balanced diet and as long as you are not losing weight (if you are in a normal weight range) don't worry about it.

Yes, I agree about the soy. It especially conflicts with the mineral Selenium, which is found in the soil. Selenium maintains the antibodies in our immune system, and trust me, you don't wanna mess that up!

Eating garlic and onions, if you don't mind the smell, is very very good for you and the best for naturally breaking down the fat.
