There are several reasons to have plaque in the arteries.  Cholesterol is only one.  It is found in animal meats, eggs, and foods cooked with animal fats such as bacon drippings.  The body uses Cholesterol to make new body cells and depending on your age and health, makes alot.  When dietary cholesterol isn't available, the body can make it on it's own to meet the body's needs. Reducing dietary cholesterol can also reduce other vitamins and minerals you may need.  If your doctor suggests that you cut back, then do, otherwise just eat animal meats once or twice a week only. McDonalds pre-cooks their french fries in animal fats, so don't eat those. Check with the doctor about taking meds to reduce cholesterol. There are prescription meds, or over the counter Niacin that may help. Electrolytes such as a magnesium supplements may prove helpful as well.  You did not indicate the other medical problems, so check with the doctor for suggestions and the pharmacist for medication reactions before taking any action.
