I had hypoglycemia throughout my second pregnancy. I followed the diabetic diet, mostly. I always made sure to eat every two hours, avoided refined sugar and carbs (anything that's going to cause a big dump of insulin, because the rebound hypoglycemia and drop your numbers very low). Avoid junk food. Make sure you get protein. I ate a lot of peanut butter on wheat and milk. Good luck!
Well, as reactive hypoglycemia tends to occur after eating high-carb meals due to the fast spike and then crash of blood sugar, I would focus eating foods that do not cause this. Stay away from heavily processed starches (pastas, cereals, breads) and get your carbs from healthy sources like sweet potatoes, spinach, peppers, and other vegetables. A white rice or quinoa would be alright in small amounts and in moderation. (I know people will rail against white rice but whole grain or brown rice contain too much anti-nutrients and can cause leaky gut syndrome) Make sure to eat those starches with protein and fat to help reduce the spikes of glucose. Do not go low fat, your growing baby NEEDS saturated fat in order to build healthy neuro-processors. Just stay away from trans-fats (mostly found in processed foods).
Also, eliminate as much unnecessary sugars from your diets, or limit them to infrequent treats. Find fruits that are low-glycemic options. Kick high-fructose corn syrup out for good! Google low-glycemic foods for more info.
Also, you can spread your meals out a bit as well...snack occasionally on things like nuts or veggies. This will help keep your blood sugars/glucose levels more steady.
In fact, this particular diet it really great for anyone pregnant. Keep the blood sugar steady, keep plenty of health dietary fat in there, keep things as natural as possible...how could anyone go wrong?
