HOW DO YOU TREAT SOMEONE WITH A PARALYZED COLON?
Avatar_dr_f_tn
Hello!
Paralysis of the colon or slow peristalsis of the colon can be caused due to hypothyroidism, hypokalaemia etc.Injured anal sphincter, loperamides, antidepressants, insufficient fluid intake; insufficient fiber in diet can all lead to slow peristalsis. If left untreated it can lead to bowel perforation, fecal impaction, rectal prolapse, haemorrhoids etc. Diagnosing and treating the cause is very important. Maintaining a well-balanced, high fiber diet, drinking plenty of water, regular exercise, and setting a regular bowel habit can help. Do keep us posted.
Best luck!
