sick from alcohol

sick from alcohol

I am a 27 yr old female who drinks very rarely because when I do drink, I end up getting sick. (vomit, diarrhea, nausea etc) I am not talking about 5 or 6 drinks, I am talking about 1 or 2 beers. Sometimes I get sick immediately or a couple of hours later. And I don't drink on an empty stomach. Could I possibly have a problem with my liver? I used to be able to drink when I was younger without any complications. I would like to be able to go out with my friends and co-workers and have a drink or 2 without having to worry about it.
thanks.

sure, it wouldn't hurt to have your liver enzymes checked out.  a comprehensive blood workup should cover all the basic details for that.  you may also have a problem with sulfur preservatives that are often in different types of alcohols.  if you get sick like this with dried fruits also (which often contain high levels of sulfur dioxide as a preservative) this would corroborate my hypothesis.

bottomline, if alcohol hurts you, don't drink it.  that's the easy answer.  if you haven't had blood work in awhile (or ever), go get it done.  your insurance should cover it under a routine well visit umbrella every year or two.  my insurance pays for routine bloodwork (i.e. i'm not getting it because of any known sickness or monitoring a condition) every two years.
