sodium

by charlie484, Oct 26, 2009 07:56AM
I'm 61, have had two heart attacks, the last one 6 years ago ended with a quad-by-pass. Now ever since then I've had a hard time maintianing my weight, which at the time was 230. I have had good reports on my colesteral, throu my good colesterial is a little low. But lately I have ballooned to 275. I eat one "Ramen" noodle meal. They are acually pretty good. They're cheap at $1 a pieace and easy to nuke. So I'm not over eating, but I just noticed each meal has 630 grams of sodium. Is that high? Could that be the reason I'm growing?

The sodium is not good for your heart, but one package of ramen isn't going to make you gain that much weight.  You can get healthier ramen in a health food store made of whole grains, but it will still be high in sodium for someone with heart problems.  I would check into what medications they have you on for candidates for weight gain if your diet hasn't changed.
