My family and I started taking Shark Liver Oil softgels in November.  My dad had heard they help against colds.  He was getting cold every 2-3 months and they wiped him out for a good two weeks.  He takes them and hasn't had another cold.  Our family, as well, have not been sick since we started with them, and that is saying a lot because everyone we know has been sick, and I also babysit in my home and the kids have been sick.  My concern is that I heard from a doctor on T.V. ( I think it might have been Oprah), that our bodies don't get rid of vitamin A and it just builds up in our bodies and that is not healthy.  I know I am not explaining it like she did, but it was something to that effect.  The Shark Liver Oil softgels are 10,000 IU, 200% daily value.  Is this true, should we not be taking these everyday, or at all?  I have an almost 5 year old and want to help our family stay well.

Shark Liver oil supplements have been known to boost the immune system due to the white blood cells, vitamin A, omega-3 fatty oils, and other substances in the oil. Presently there is no standard dosage, however, it is strongly recommended not to exceed the manufacture’s recommended daily dose. This supplement should not be taken over 30 days due to a possible overproduction of blood platelets and may cause blood clotting.
It is recommended not to take mega doses of fat-soluble vitamins (Vitamins A, D, E, & K). Fat- soluble vitamins stay in the body’s tissues and build up when excessive amounts are taken which can be toxic to the body. Water-soluble vitamins (Vitamins C, & Bs) do not build up in our bodies and need to replaced daily.
Hope this helped you.
