vitamin b12 serum test

vitamin b12 serum test

I recently had blood drawn for checkup of my anemia, and my doctor also tested my b-12 levels. Ferritin was 6ng, Hgb was 11g. However my b-12 levels were 1000pg, higher than the normal range. Could this be at all due to me taking my multivitamin, which includes 3.0 mcg of b-12, before the test? Thanks

Yes, supplements and food eaten before blood tests may cause elevation of values. There are no adverse effects of high levels of vitamin B12. Thank you for your question.
