Getting annoying

I think I've recently developed an OCD of swallowing I air. It's really weird, when I focus on breathing (notice that I'm breathing instead of letting it be natural like it is)  i tend to swallow air with the back of my mouth and throat and its extremely annoying. It's silly bc I won't be doing it unless I stop and think about it, but nonetheless I do it. It gets to the point to where I'm doing it so much I get that sensation of having a lump in my throat; the kind you get when your about to cry. I was just wondering if this is a common issue people deal with? Thanks in advance.

Hi! This definitely sounds exactly like what i do with my OCD. Not directly that, but I do similar things, where if I notice it, I cannot stop focusing on it. For example, I think I am allergic to wheat/gluten, but it is worsened by anxiety/stress. So sometimes I will eat it and I am fine, but other times I have slight trouble breathing. Anyways, when I do notice that I have that slight trouble breathing, I usually try to just ignore it, and deal with it, and breath normal, because I know it's my anxiety making it feel worse than it is. Then, as I keep thinking about it, it gets worse and worse, to the point of me having to take a Benadryl. I think what you are experiencing is very normal, and can be easily fixed! Try your best to distract yourself, or do something that calms and relaxes you, to get your mind off of it. Eventually, with enough practice, you will be able to free your mind of thinking about and doing it. I hope this helped some, and you can fix it soon!
