Is it attention or is there another problem?

by CONCERNED0899, Oct 20, 2009 03:06PM
My son has just turned five.  He has always been one for routine.  He takes after me on that.  Recently he has been telling on himself about everything, even things he hasn't done.  We also have a two month old daughter.  There has been alot of illness lately (flu scare, strep) so we try to be careful and remind him not to get in her face.  He loves her very much but it seems like his behavior has worsened since she was born.  I just thought this was him wanting attention and tried to tell him I just didn't want to hear it unless it was an emergency.  Trying not to encourage him in his behavior.  But yesterday he really concerned me.  He start touching his nose, then the car (we were in the car), and then wiping where he touched off with a napkin over and over.  Should I be worried?  Am I causing it?  What should I do?

Did your son also have STREP?  If he wasn't tested get him tested (ask for the lab test that checks the Titer count, because the quick/same day result test at the doctor's office isn't always accurate).  STREP antibodies can atack the ganglia in the brain and cause OCD.  Get him on antibiotics ASAP if he tests positive for STREP.  I suggest googling "PANDAS" withe the word STREP for more info on this condition.  Also google "intrusive thought OCD", "morbid OCD", "bad thought OCD".  Hope all turns out OK.
