Obsessive thoughts

Hello, im not entirely sure if im posting in the right place, just curious as to any feedback. For years and years i have been obsessing over things. They are not logical things, they can be anything such as a person, something i did, something i said, something that has absolutely no relevance to me at all. Once my mind is fixed on one of these things i cannot stop thinking about it every concious second of every day for months at a time. Also once i start obsessing i start researching, i have to fill every free moment i can with learning about the topic i am obsessing over, every tiny minuscle little detail i must know.

After a few months the obsession just gets replaced with yet another obsession over yet another topic, but the original obsession never goes away, they just pile ontop of each other and it is driving me mad. I sit in class and cannot concentrate at all because i spend every second running over the same tired debates, facts or conversations in my head. Whilst i obsess over these things i also feel so low and i have no idea why.

An example of my latest obsession is of all things circumcision. It 1 day came up in a conversation, it has absolutely nothing to do with me but my friend had her 2 sons circumcised. I am against circumcision on infants myself. A normal person could leave it at that but i cannot. I cant stop obsessing over how "horrific" i view it is and i feel the need to drop it into every conversation i can to try n convince the world to see it my way. I spend all day every day thinking about it, i spent weeks reading up every bit of information i could find on the topic and running it thru my head day in day out but i just cant stop obsessing over it and the bad feeling that comes with the obsession.

Any advice on what is up with me would b greatly appreciatd. I am not usualy a person to talk but hey why not?

Only a psychiatrist can make a diagnosis but yes that could easily be ocd. Ocd is treatable with medication, talk therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy can be helpful as well. Speak to a psychiatrist and see how they can help you.

IMO it sounds as GAD. And anxiety causes OCD.

But like ILADVOCATE has said, only a shrink can diagnose you and you should visit one so you get rid of that problem.

I don't know if this is obsession, OCD, or some intensivity of your mental activity. It sounds like the sort of thing that could be very valuable, if you can harness it into important research studies and/or political activity. It sounds as if you are a very high-energy person. In other societies, this sort of intensivity has been sometimes enormously valued. Still, as it is, it is interfering with your concentrating on the world around you, and seems to jump from topic to topic too much, so probably you should speak with a psychologist/psychiatrist---an intelligent who is open to innovative interpretation.
