blood pressure getting too high

by Marla39527, Sep 07, 2009 11:30PM
I am a 45 year old mother of 2 and in 97 I had some sort of seizure-when I had a MRI done the Dr. told me I had OCD.  I was always a worrier.  I also found out then I have high blood pressure.  Every so often I obsess about the blood pressure. Years ago I got so depressed about it because I was constantly worrying that I went to see a psychiatrist for it.  He put me on Lexapro and Ativan if needed.  I have put this worry of blood pressure on the back burner for almost 5 years now and just recently the worrying about it came back to where  I am scared that I will get myself worked up-get my blood pressure up- and the What If's start-what if I get my blood pressure up and lose my mind and think it I am supposed to get all worked up and don't know the difference.  I know this sounds silly to some people but it is worry I am really scared about.  My best friend said I will know the difference but the thoughts scare the hell out of me. Does anyone have any input they can give me on this?  It terrifies me--usually have a couple weeks a certain thought will leave and another one takes its place but what do I do about this until then?  Will I know the difference?  Please can someone give me some input on this?  Thanks!

well, if you know for sure that once you're done worrying about this you'll just find something else to worry about...then what's the rush to get rid of this thought? you know it's an irrational fear...you've pretty much already said that. close your eyes and hold your hand up to your nose...sit in a relaxing position and then close one nostril. breath in through your nose with one nostril closed, then breath out through the other. keep doing this in slow steady breaths.while doing this just try to clear your mind. when you've relaxed, just try to keep your head clear of clutter. speak with your doctor. maybe your med will need to be adjusted or you can start seeing him more often.in the meantime look up relaxation excercises and practice them. do everything you can to simply clear your head.
