afterthought...you may want to look up all possible side effects of the medication in a PDR not the simple condensed info provided to patients.
Manic episodes are common with the use of anti depressants for bi polar patients. Anti depressants are often needed but will be discontinued if mania developes. I am Bipolar 1, ocd and ADHD. It took time to be fully diagnosed. OCD does not shift into full mania witrh anti dep. meds
How manic do you get.
My phycologist recently commented that I looked manic. I replied yer I'm a bit hyper right now. by the time my next session with phycologist came around I'd had time to think about what he said and I needed to understand what he meant by it. I asked if he thought I being hyper or manic and if manic meant I was Bi polar or still OCD, GAD, PTSD, depresion. He told me he did not think I was manic enough to be bi-polar in his oppinion. Bi-polar people tend to spend to much have sex to easy and do really extream behaviours when they are manic. I dont do anything remotely like that. I more like ADHD hyper but not ADHD my phycologist explained that anxiety or more the adrenalin causes hyper behaviour. Which is exactly why I felt I was hyper when I'm anxious. I'm not using up the adrenalin that is being produced.
What were you doing when you came off med's. rebound effect from stopping meds suddenly can make symptoms more intence as well. I think its a diagnoises based on behaviour from suddenly stopping meds might not be accurate at all. I be sceptcal about the diagnoises.
OK thanks
would you investigate this for me.
I understand well there is nothing called i am bipolar, but we say i have bipolarity disorder, i.e. a tendency to getting manic under AD, unless the very classical type which is rare already. So if my theory is right then it's the tendency that i may possess genetically that has sent me over the edge using AD's, thus from there onwards i became more and more susceptible and hence need a mood stabilizer.
but then who knows they may discover that those class like me can be reverted back if they can understand why they were driven manic under AD's.
Okay, I think I understand Your question.
You are asking if a person who suffers Obsessive compulsive disorder can become maniac due to the use of an anti depressant?
I do agree that (some) doctors will say no saying some as I know others who would disagree. But Yes I believe they can, the same as anyone placed on the wrong medication can be effected in some way or another.
no i meant someone who has OCD ONLY can he get manic under an AD if he keeps taking AD's only without AP's or MS. Again does it exist a category of people not necessarily BP or classicaly BP but because under the constant use of AD get manic.
you see the definition of a BP pt is someone who can get manic either with or without an AD. So the label BP is not a disease but a property or behaviour. Because if if someone not called having originally the disease but got manic it means that bipolarity is the ability to get manic and not a category called bipolars. To clarify there are people who are tall and others short. for example the americans were tall and the japanese short. now the latter by changing their diet became tall. So being tall does not only apply to the americans but also to all those who can become tall and yet originally short. So i can say generally speaking the americans are tall and the japanese short. But in certain circumstances they can become tall. Same thing here, i wasn't originally BP but due to an AD i became one. Forget about having both now or comorbidity. Just an OCD can turn manic under an abuse of AD. it's easy. Of course my question is not a medical question, because doctors reason differently. they conclude if you get manic you are bipolar, i.e. they don't/CAN'T investigate it further.
I do not understand Your question completely but it is possible to suffer bipolar disorder and to suffer Obsessive compulsive Disorder. Biplar disorder being (manic), You can suffer both these disorders at once
