is this being obsessive or worse

by waterchild, Jul 03, 2009 01:18PM
Before I say what happened I sould say that I have extreme anxiety problems and ocd, that is all this could be but I want to be sure. The other day I was walking outside, not paying attention really to anything around me and i opened the door, i looked down and i swear i saw a snake on the doorstep. i jumped over it, ran for about 3 seconds, slowly walked back and it wasnt there. i dont know how fast snake are but my uncle looked all over for it and couldnt find a snake inside or outside. im constantly worried that im going to get schizophrenia so it could be just my anxiety. but if the snake really wasnt there is that schizophrenea or just seeing something out of the corner of my eye and saw it wrong. I don't have any other symptoms, I sleep a lot and am detached but thats because im scared all the time, panic attacks. I don't hear things, although im always doing stuff like ill hear something, ill freak out and think im hearing something, but then my husband will say he heard it too and im not crazy. please just tell me if this sounds like sch. or not. thanks

I saw your post in another forum. I have the same experiences...came to ocd forum to see if anything 'clicks' for me. Will be interested to follow this thread and see if anyone else has experienced this. It's very common for me to see what's not there but could be there, and on the other hand, to doubt seeing what I'm near, seeing or holding...it takes me a bit of time to process the information. I hate when that happens, but I've never been able to stop it, so I live with it. It does make life a bit more interesting and oddly, doesn't stress me out since I accepted it as something that happens, like tiredness or fatigue, that I can't control and so just need to roll with it.

I hit the "post" button too fast. I wanted to tell you that snakes vary on speed depending on temperature and when they ate last.

I am 40 years old and suffer from, amongst other things, Anxiety...I once went through an extremely difficult time during which my Anxiety levels were "off the chart" for no apparent reason (in fact there was NO reason)...and I was convinced that our home's lawns and gardens were absolutely over run by Funnel Web spiders...my doctor explained that the intolerable levels of anxiety without any reason had caused my mind to develop an Anxiety Phobia...in which I not only was 'convinced' of the presence of these spiders, I often saw them...I couldn't sit in our outdoor area without having my feet up on the chair...we eventually moved into an apartment (no lawns and gardens, no spiders right?) and I started destroying every potplant we owned...it disappeared almost as quickly as it had appeared (following an adjustment of medications).  I don't know if this is common or not?
