so sick of this...

I've seen a few people talk about this.... I can't stop squeezing/picking my face. I look closely at all pores and find things that just HAVE to be sqeezed to get out stuff that's not even there. And I sqeeze and sqeeze and oil comes out and/or blood and I usually break the skin etc.....I have some scars on my left side and now the last few days I've been murdering this area on the right side. Each time I think it's going to be one good pop(like when I really did get a pimple!) and it will be over. But it goes on and on......I have a therapist and told him about it and he mentioned it's stress, boredom whatever. I was wondering if anyone has had success with stopping with anything besides therapy, anti-depressants etc......If you do it to legs arms at least you can cover them up. I seem to want to do it just to my face.....

Well quite simply, only a therapy of some kind would work. They are compulsions you are suffering with, even if I advised certain things for you to do, or a way to change your behaviour, by definition that would be therapy!

The best thing you can do for compulsive behaviour is distraction techniques which can stop the compulsive behaviour from occuring as it deals with the obsession.

But the best thing I can say (however frustrating and tiresome) is to keep on with the therapy, make sure it's clear they understand how severe the behaviour is, and demand help for it! But usually there are underlying causes, obsessions are generally results of anxiety and the compulsions are the behaviour that is your way with dealing with it, your therapist would work on finding what the root cause is, and even more appropriate ways with dealing with them.
