Indoor Chemical Fires

Indoor Chemical Fires

Hello, Please let me know if anyone has experience with such:

When me and my friends were kids, we had the typical young boy fascination with fire. When my parents weren't home we would open the windows in my bedroom and make small controlled fires in a glass ash tray. What concerns me is that in our youthful ignorance we would often fill glass jars with WD40 and silcon spray inside, and light them off to observe the plume of fire that would be emitted. Now, since this was indoors in my bedroom I am concerned that the vapors from those burning chemicals may have had some negative effect on my body (especially sleeping in that room after we would do this). I have not had any respiratory disorders that i know of and have undergone various psychicals since with no problems noted.

My question is two fold. The first part being is there anything I should have my doctor due to retroactively check for damage that could have resulted from this. i have never mentioned this to any physician (simply due to it being so long ago and having forgotten it almost completely). The second question is that now i have since moved out and that room is being inhabited by a relative, i wanted to know if anything could have lingered in that dwelling that may be of concern and what would be appropriate safety measures to take for their safety.

Please be helpful in your responses and don't respond with negative remarks. I'm well aware that this was stupid but as I said, I was a very young boy and didn't really know any better.

WD-40 is basically kerosene and people have lived for years with kerosene lanterns and heaters. You probably get more silicon exposure from your non-stick frying pan.

My personal opinion is there is no danger and nothing to be concerned about. I doubt there is any damage to your body and there is no test to determine if that is so.

It appears pointless to bring this up with your physician, except to establish in your permanent medical records that will follow you forever and you will never see that you are a potential pyromaniac. Be careful what you tell your doctor.

Sleep well tonight.
