oil fumes

hi i work in a steel works and 1 of the heavy lathes leaks oil which when mixed with hot turnings causes oil smoke and fumes can breathing these fumes in cause any medical problems

Hello,

Yes, inhalation of petroleum-based fumes can cause acute and chronic health effects. The effects depend upon a variety of factors including (but not limited to) the components of oil or lubricant, concentration of the vapors in air, duration of exposure, and individual characteristics such as breathing rate.
